"Why the Artist Creates" is a celebration of music, art, and the creative choices we all make!
Who is Rowland Salley and why should we listen to what he has to say? Those are the same questions producer Luanne Bole-Becker asked herself at a 1993 Chris Isaak concert, as she found herself inexplicably drawn to the band's bass guitarist, Rowland Salley.
In the months that followed, they struck up a correspondence that explored why Salley chose to be a musician and painter. In this 24-minute documentary based on their letters, Bole-Becker and Salley collaborate with a talented team of film and video artists, merging original music and stunning visuals into a human interest story honoring the creative spirit within us all.
"Why the Artist Creates" is a national Silver Telly award winner, Emmy nominee, and Columbus International Film Festival honoree. It premiered on PBS station KQED-TV in San Francisco.
